slide-m-bottlesThe Brugal rum is one of rums from the Dominican Republic more popular. Brugal bill 80% of the rum produced on the island. Other well-known brands of Dominican rum are Ron Ron Barcelo and Bermudez. These three brands of Dominican rum are known as the “three bes”.

Brugal was founded by Andrés Brugal Montaner, Catalan Sitges who emigrated to Santiago de Cuba and ended up settling in Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic). It was there, in 1888, he founded Brugal & Co. using the experience in the manufacture of rum he had acquired in Cuba, ushering in a century-old family business dedicated to producing saga Dominican rum of the highest quality. Brugal in 1920 opened its first stores for aging rum in oak barrels. The Brugal rum is now present in most of the Caribbean and the main importing countries are the United States, Canada, Spain and Italy.

The Brugal rum is distinguished from others in that it is produced entirely in the Dominica Republic and continues being used traditional methods in its preparation. In the sugar plantations of the island juice, which will become molasses which later will be Brugal distilleries to be stored in huge tanks and diluted in water is extracted. During the fermentation process, the sugar into alcohol and the resultant product is available for distillation. In this step, the fermented subjected to heat until the volatiles are evaporated. The extracted substance is vacuum packed and alcohol is aged in oak barrels for different periods of time depending on the variety of rum.

Brugal currently produces different varieties of rum according to the market to which it is intended. In 1888 the company produced the typical dark rum. In 1920, with the opening of its new warehouses, the company attempted to improve product quality and brought to market the varieties Brugal Carta Dorada and Brugal Blanco. Añejo Brugal, a dark rum five years, began production in 1952. Brugal Extra Viejo, 8, is even more expensive and put on sale in 1976. Two of the best rums are produced Brugal: Brugal Golden Age of 12 years and Single Brugal, 30 years, especially aimed at large understood. They are also versions “reserve” of the above varieties, as well as special editions and Brugal Brugal Titanium 1888.
